Basic Information Part One:
  1. 1- Never give out personal information, such as your address, telephone number, or school name and address or a friends name.
  2. 2- Never agree to go meet a person you have met online, and never send your picture to a person you have met online but do not really know.
  3. 3- Stay healthy take care of your eyes when using technology. Eye care and technology look away every 20 minutes and take a 10 minute break every hour. Gamers beware protect your eyes.
  4. 4-Ear buds and headphones use safely never turn volume pass half-way level or use for more than 45 minutes. Poor practices can damage ears and cause hearing loss.
  5. 5-Germs: Always wash hands before using technology this helps fight the spread of germs.
  6. 6- Email, texting or chatting remember writing in Capital letters (ALL UPPER CASE) means that you are shouting and angry it is not proper Netiquette turn CAPS LOCK OFF.

Intermediate Information Part Two: What is a Web Browser? What is your favorite web browser? Can browsers block websites?

bulletBe careful when downloading, allowing or running files from the Internet, Saving files to your computer they may contain viruses, Malware, spy ware or High-Jacker programs.  Scan downloaded programs or files before you install, save or open them and check with an adult. Gaming sites or sites with lots of pop ups may have spyware.
bulletStrong Passwords- Create stronger  passwords by using small letters and uppercase letters, numbers and symbols when allowed more than 6 digits.
bulletCheck Web Site security before  entering private information or making a purchase.
Internet Security Safe Site Check: Look for site security information Look for the security lock  on the status bar and the S in URL this means it is secure https:// = secure. This is not secure http://....Think before you use. Look for Security Software update note.
bulletSocial Networks are not recommended for students under 13 years old. Students should not advertise or share personal private information using online resources on the Internet such as a profile or social networks like Twitter, Instagram or Blogs. Students should use privacy settings and seek help from parents. Only follow and allow people you and your parents know to follow you.
bulletTagging pictures: Ask permission before name tagging others this is proper netiquette and minors should not use last names. Best practice no name tagging for students/minors.
bulletGeo tag: assigns a geographic location to a picture or video. Best practice for minors and young students no geo tagging. Set Geo-Tagging Off for Student pictures keep location private.
bullet Cyber Bullying is against the law in New Jersey.  Cyber Bullying is using "electronic communication" to threaten, humiliate or harass other students. This includes any online resources (IM, email, chat rooms, Instragram or any social networking site), blogging, YouTube along with cell phones including text messages and sending pictures. Beware this can go on your school record!
bullet(AUP) Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) is a document stating restrictions and rules a user must agree to and follow for Internet or network use at school, libraries, college or work. Be respectful of Acceptable Use Policies show you have good Netiquette (Online Manners).  BCS Acceptable Use Policy
bulletEmail Three Important Tips:
bulletNever open an email from a sender you do not know especially if it has an attachment.  This could be a virus.
bulletEmail Attachments can contain computer viruses be careful  before you open them.  You can scan attachments  for viruses.
bulletDelete suspicious email right away do not open it and then empty your deleted folder.
